About Twisted Sisters & Company Fibre Mill
Twisted Sisters & Company Fibre Mill (TSM) is a family business, it is owned by three sisters - Leanne, Renee and Marlene. They specialize in Alpaca Yarn and finished products from this same yarn. The alpaca fibre comes from the annual shearing of the Sunnyhill Alpaca herd which is owned by Leanne and her husband Kevin. Once they have milled the shorn alpaca into spun yarn or rovings, they knit, crochet, weave felt and sew to make numerous finished alpaca products
Sunnyhill Alpaca has a solid breeding program; they take pride in producing the best alpacas possible. They pay close attention to the micron count and strive to have fine consistent fleeces. This fineness and consistency reflects directly in the yarn, roving's and finished products that they produce. When you purchase yarn or finished product from Twisted Sisters Mill you can be assured that it is not only warm and soft, but top quality as well.
Alpaca Fleece is the natural fibre harvested from an alpaca. It is light or heavy in weight, depending on how it is spun. It is a soft, durable, luxurious and silky natural fibre. While similar to sheep's wool, it is warmer, not prickly and has no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic. Alpaca is naturally water repellent and difficult to ignite.
There are two types of alpacas, Huacaya - grows soft spongy fibre that has natural crimp, making it well-suited for knitting and crocheting. Suri - has high luster and no crimp, it is better suited for weaving.
